We had a fun day, but I struggle to see how the cost is justified. The staff were great, but there just wasn’t as much to so as I thought there would be. We went to Wookey Hole a few years ago and I…Full review by gangreen18

Maybe lucky to go on an early season day/time when we almost had it to ourselves but very glad we went. The presentation of the two caves is quite different so very discrete experiences. One fairly a…Full review by Flyer24500696687

Not many in the first cave and some you don't have to use at all if you don't want to. They are solid concrete steps but, obviously, can get wet. In the second cave, I don't remember there being any steps but the path was rough and uneven. If, however, you want to climb Jacob's Ladder, that has over 200 steps.

I'm going to be blunt, so please don't take offence, it's a cave system and steep sloping valley cutting its way through essentially a cliff. The ground is rough going in places, with many places using steps just to get to the entrances. If the person with a wheel chair has people to lift the chair to get over the many steps, and obstacles. And their people are happy to lift the wheelchair user through some of the caverns then it may be possible to an extent. The caverns aren't like traversing through a series of rooms in a building, they are a natural structure that was dug out by its original discoverer. It can be a mission for able bodied folk to get into some of these areas at times. A solo wheel chair visitor is unlikely to get their chair to the entrances, let alone into the caves unfortunately. The official answer on their website is - "Those with severely restricted mobility or who are wheelchair dependent will find much of Cheddar Gorge & Caves inaccessible including the caves, the Cliff-top Walk and the Lookout Tower." There is a safety and accessibility section on their website that gives more detail.
Q:
if it is still open now recently
A:
The caves were open when we visited in May.
Q:
Are the caves open this month
A:
No I believe they are still closed, due to an ongoing issue with the owners we were told by a local.
