We traveled through the area as part of our Island Princess world tour. A calm day, the views were amazing, and unspoiled.Full review by VillagerRick

My cruise included Doubtful, Dusky and Milford Sounds on a perfect, blue sky day. Each sound was magnificent. Pictures can’t do this place justice. If your cruise to NZ includes this opportunity it i…Full review by Nlhoff
Can you drive due west from Christchurch at this time of the year? Are the roads good?

My wife and I stayed in Te Anu for two nights. It could and should have been longer. We had rented a car and had great access to Fiordland National Park. We drove thru the park on the way to Milford Lodge for a mid-day cruise. Unfortunately we did not have time to take a tour to Doubtful Sound. We were able to take advantage of 2 of the short walks in the park from trailheads along the road thru the park. A lot of beautiful sights from the roadway and on the sound. Enjoy your time there.
What public transportation is available? Can we get there by Intercity Bus?

I don't think so but not 100% sure. There are many tour buses that do a fantastic job. My recommendation is to go with one of those tours. They will stop and show you things like waterfalls, small hikes etc. that you would not find on your own or in an Intercity bus.

All fantastic. Milford Sound is beautiful if you want a packed day, but a walk along Kepler track and then glow worm caves could be more leisurely. You will have a great time whatever you …
