When the Derek Carr/shoulder injury news broke, it fueled speculation that any team interested in Shedeur Sanders or another quarterback could jump in front of the New Orleans Saints, who pick one spot behind the Panthers at No. 9. But the Saints don’t seem to be in on Sanders, who could be in a for a Thursday night fall.

Newsome, the 26th overall selection in 2021, could immediately take over as the primary defender from the slot—where he's played the majority of his snaps over the last three seasons. The lanky 6-foot-1, 192-pounder also has outside chops if needed.
