One day after bringing back Craig Kimbrel, perhaps the greatest closer in franchise history, the struggling Atlanta Braves have designated the veteran reliever for assignment. The club recalled left-hander Austin Cox in a corresponding move.

The Braves signed Kimbrel to a minor league deal during spring training, but didn't make the major league roster. In 18 minor league appearances this season (15 for Gwinnett), he had a 2.00 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 18 innings with 8 walks and 9 hits allowed.

The Atlanta Braves called Craig Kimbrel up from Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this week, but his stint with the team didn't last long.
