A tomato recall due to risk of salmonella contamination has been designated as Class I, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's highest warning level, the agency said. The FDA marked the tomato recall affecting three states as Class I, meaning there is a risk of "serious adverse health consequences or death," on May 28.

The FDA is elevating a recall of tomatoes to Class I, its highest warning level. Williams Farm Repack first announced the recall of tomatoes due to risk of salmonella contamination on May 2 with the produce being distributed in late April in Georgia,

The recalled tomatoes, packaged in trays and boxes, were shipped to Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
