North Forney High School, Brown Middle School, Smith Intermediate, Dewberry Elementary, Blackburn Elementary and Forney Learning Academy were placed in secure status. According to Forney ISD's website, that means exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out of the campuses, but business inside should go on as usual.

One man is dead and another is critically injured after gunfire erupted between occupants of a white vehicle and pedestrians near Forney schools. Video obtained by CBS News Texas appears to show the white vehicle driving through a neighborhood before stopping outside Brown Middle School.

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office confirmed two people were shot near Brown Middle School, although not on campus. Two suspects are in custody, according to officials. Forney ISD said all students and staff were safe.
