When Oceanside native Gianna Buzzetta landed the prestigious job of pastry chef at Michelin-starred Jeune et Jolie restaurant in Carlsbad in the summer of 2022, she was just 23 years old.

Executive pastry chef for California-based restaurant Jeune et Jolie, Gianna Buzzetta, recently died on March 24, 2025, following an incident at the Makaleha Falls Trail in Hawaii the previous day.

According to the Kauai Fire Department, the woman, later identified as Gianna Buzzetta, was hiking the Makaleha Falls Trail in Kapaa on March 23 when she was hit in the head by a falling rock.

Gianna Buzzetta, who was just 26 years old, died while on vacation in Hawaii. A Carlsbad restaurant is holding a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses.
