The Gifford Fire continued to burn Monday in California’s Central Coast region, prompting expanded evacuation orders and road closures as the blaze grew to more than 65,000 acres. The fire, which ignited Friday afternoon northeast of Santa Maria in the Los Padres National Forest,

Fire managers for the U.S. Forest Service put Gifford at 49,761 acres (77 square miles), with 3% containment. Three people were reported injured: a civilian who was burned, and two contractors who were injured in an off-road utility vehicle’s rollover.

The blaze injured three people, put hundreds under evacuation orders and threatened 460 structures, officials said.
