Google is no stranger to antitrust scrutiny, but the walls may be closing in. As the next phase of Google's search trial nears, the company's lawyers have reportedly met with representatives from the US Department of Justice in hopes of heading off a breakup.

Google is urging officials at President Donald Trump’s Justice Department to back away from a push to break up the search engine company, citing national security concerns, according to people familiar with the discussions.

In January, Google was one of several tech giants to donate $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. Now, the company is trying to cash in on the favor. Bloomberg reports that representatives for Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., urged officials from Donald Trump’s DOJ to keep the company whole at a meeting last week.
