Kemp had been waiting a while. A lifetime for his major-league debut, Saturday in Pittsburgh. Perhaps just as long to lay down a good bunt.

The Phillies utilized a little small ball to finally end their five-game losing streak by walking off the Cubs in 11 innings by a final score of 4-3. Otto Kemp collected three hits, including his first MLB knock and the second of a pair of bunt singles in the 11th to load the bases.

Kemp is starting at first base in Wednesday's game against the Cubs and is expected to mostly play that position for the Phillies while Bryce Harper (wrist) is sidelined, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Besides, once it came, Kemp’s head spun. There were phone calls (first up: his parents in California) and travel arrangements to make. His wife, Lily, and their dog piled in the car at 5:30 a.m. and drove to Pittsburgh from Charlotte, N.C., where the Phillies’ triple-A club was playing; Kemp hopped a 90-minute flight.
