In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in Texas' Bluebonnet Detention Center "until further order from this court."

Many of the Venezuelan immigrants who have been removed under the Alien Enemies Act have been sent to a prison in El Salvador known as the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo, or CECOT. Grove said it is unclear whether that was the plan for the folks represented in this case, too.

The Alien Enemies Act, an 18th century law, gives the president sweeping authority during a time of war to deport people from an enemy nation. It was used to legitimize Japanese internment during World War II. Trump has invoked the law claiming that Venezuelan gangs have invaded the United States.
