While the industry is having a moment with video game adaptations, Universal is no stranger to adapting them into hit movies. OutRun is slated to follow The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s, which grossed $1.4 billion and $290 million, respectively, in global box office.

Sweeney will produce (so far) and Bay will direct the adaptation of the successful 1980s video game franchise which had players driving a Ferrari car.

Bay is set to produce and direct a feature adaptation of the franchise that first debuted in 1986, with Sweeney also onboard as a producer.
