VJ Edgecombe will return to NBA Summer League action for the Philadelphia 76ers after the No. 3 overall draft pick missed four games due to a thumb sprain.

Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard VJ Edgecombe edged out Dallas Mavericks rookie forward Cooper Flagg at halftime in NBA Summer League.

We had a brief taste of it against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, when the Sixers lost in the final minute, but Edgecombe balled out with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal, and also showed off some trash-talking chops. For a day or so, everything was golden and Summer League vibes were super high.

The 19-year-old poured in a game-high 28 points on 13 of 27 shooting, hauled in 10 rebounds, dished out four assists, made two blocks and had just two turnovers. While Edgecombe struggled from beyond the arc (1 of 7) and from the charity stripe (1 of 3), it won't take away from the fact that his Summer League debut was a resounding success.

Edgecombe has missed the Sixers' last three summer league games with a thumb injury, but he has been moving through the Las Vegas trip alongside the rehabbing McCain.

The 76ers suffered a 41-point loss to the San Antonio Spurs in their Las Vegas Summer League debut without Edgecombe. They managed just 70 points in the game, with just two players — Keve Aluma and Mark Armstrong — cracking double digits. None of Philadelphia’s five starters reached double figures, as the team shot just 36.8 percent from the floor.
