The third season of HBO 's popular series House of the Dragon has made a major casting decision. Actor James Norton, known for his work in Happy Valley and Restless, will play Ormund Hightower, Variety reported. The character was referenced in the second season but never appeared on screen.

House of the Dragon has added Happy Valley star James Norton to its season 3 cast. The Game of Thrones prequel series was renewed for a third instalment last summer, before season two had even been released.

The Hightower family tree has grown a new branch with news from Variety that James Norton is joining House of the Dragon as Ormund Hightower, the first cousin of Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).

In January 2025, Variety reported James Norton joined the cast as Ormund Hightower, described as "Otto’s (Rhys Ifans) nephew, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne’s (Freddie Fox) cousin, and the Lord of Oldtown. He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy)."
