An overnight fire on Astor Street in Newark has resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl and sent two other children to the hospital, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The fire damaged the inside of a multifamily home, with smoke and flames engulfing the second floor.

A child was killed and another person critically injured in an overnight house fire in Newark, authorities said. The fire started around 1:30 a.m. on Astor Street, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
