Michael Hanawalt will lead the Tallahassee Community Chorus for the first time in November at their annual fall concert.

When Michael Hanawalt pondered what selection to produce for Wichita State University’s biennial concert that combined its choirs and symphony orchestra, headlines prompted him to make a statement.

Both Daniel Hege and Michael Hanawalt put Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation” in the highest echelon of choral-orchestral works, alongside the likes of Handel’s “Messiah.” ...

Hanawalt, who also directs the chorus for the symphony performances, is a first-time soloist on the Ninth, as is mezzo-soprano Krystin Skidmore.

In choosing the season repertoire, Artistic Director Michael Hanawalt thought about “what it would mean to be singing again” from different angles.

“It was a no-brainer to use it as a theme,” said Michael Hanawalt, who directs the concert chorale and women’s glee club.

The Tallahassee Community Chorus will give its last concert of the season, “I Shall Give Peace,” in FSU’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24.

Guest conductors Dr. Luis Viquez (University of Rhode Island) and Dr. Michael Hanawalt (Florida State University) direct over 1000 students in this grand performance.
