Plans for a huge, abandoned shopping mall in Durham are slowly moving forward after its closure during the pandemic.

Northgate Mall, a business hub since 1969 has been sold. New owners plan a revitalization. KATC talks to businesses about their thoughts on what this means for the mall's future.

Durham city and county leaders met Wednesday to discuss what's next for the former Northgate Mall site, which is located on a 59-acre site just two miles from Durham City Hall.

The movie theater opened at the mall a year later. In 1986, the mall was enclosed and remodeled. In 2005, former owner Macerich Co. considered removing the roof, but elected to redo it instead.
