Syracuse Orange fall sports are now in full swing, as the Syracuse women’s soccer team played their first two matchups of the season this past week. They opened the season with a 5-0 victory against Charleston Southern on Friday, before dropping their next match 2-1 against Niagara on Sunday.

Syracuse men’s soccer will look to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2025. Here are the four biggest questions SU faces before the campaign.

The Orange are returning just four key players on the offensive line from last season. Syracuse lost starting tackle Savion Washington to the NFL in April and starting center J’Onre Reed transferred to USC. Mark Petry was one 2024 starter expected to return, but he suffered a season-ending injury in May.

Syracuse’s defense can probably hold off Tennessee’s offense, working with a new quarterback. The problem is that Syracuse’s offense faces the same problem. The Volunteer defense is just a tad more experienced and polished to stop the Orange charge.

Settling the quarterback position before Week 1 gives Syracuse a clearer identity as it begins a demanding schedule. Facing Tennessee out of the gate is no small task, and stability at quarterback is crucial to staying competitive in a game where every possession will matter.

Earlier this month it appeared as though SU was essentially finished with its non-conference schedule,. But there are still two games to announce next week.
