Anna Hazare must have got some relief from pain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, following the defeat of Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi Assembly election, adding that he has been "bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time.

Mumbai: Social activist Anna Hazare, who was the face of the 2011 anti-corruption movement, on Saturday said that Aam Aadmi Party lost Delhi elections because Arvind Kejriwal and his associates took the wrong path and money became their priority. He said the AAP “drowned” by its controversial liquor policy.

As the current trends show Bharatiya Janata Party poised to get majority in Delhi assembly elections, social activist Anna Hazare criticised Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.

Following BJP's decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed Anna Hazare's criticism of AAP, highlighting their involvement in liquor and monetary controversies.

The Aam Aadmi Party's loss in the Delhi polls on Saturday triggered sharp reactions from Arvind Kejriwal's former colleagues in the party and in the 2011 India Against Corruption movement who blamed his "shift" from the idea of providing an alternative politics for the defeat.

With early trends suggesting a historic comeback for BJP and AAP staring at a loss after a decade-long rule, social activist and Arvind Kejriwal's estranged guru Anna Hazare said that he always stressed how a candidate's conduct should be pure and without blame.

Anna Hazare, spearheaded the Lokpal movement in the early 2010s along with Kejriwal. However, Hazare decided to not be a part of Aam Aadmi Party on its formation.

Social activist Anna Hazare on Saturday took a dig at Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP's) national convener Arvind Kejriwal after the entire party leadership was trailing in the Delhi polls. Reacting to the Delhi Assembly Election outcomes,

"I told this (to Arvind Kejriwal) but he did not pay heed, and finally, he focused on liquor... why did this issue raise? He was overwhelmed by money power," Anna Hazare said.

Anna Hazare expressed disappointment with Arvind Kejriwal for not adhering to honest values, focusing instead on liquor controversies. Hazare, who chose not to join the Aam Aadmi Party, criticized Kejriwal for being overwhelmed by power and money.
