The legend of Derik Queen grows. The 20-year-old Maryland center from Baltimore was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the men’s basketball coaches and media, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, four Maryland Terrapins earned All-Big Ten honors and freshman Derik Queen dominated the awards. Not only did Queen earn First-Team All-Big Ten, but he also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

No. 11 Maryland men’s basketball center Derik Queen was selected to the All-Big Ten first team by the conference’s coaches, it was announced by the league Tuesday. The last Maryland freshman to make the first team was Melo Trimble in 2014-15.

Penn State senior Ace Baldwin Jr. defended his Big Ten defensive player-of-the-year award this season, as he led the conference in steals and was considered one of its toughest on defense. Baldwin capped his college basketball career as a three-time conference player of the year,

Fifth-year senior point guard Ace Baldwin Jr. took home the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year award for the second straight season, winning it in both years he spent in Happy Valley. He was also, expectedly, a member of the All-Defensive team and an all-conference honorable mention recipient.
