A pedestrian hit by a Cook County Sheriff's officer's squad car in Glenview, Illinois, has died. The crash happened on Tuesday morning. Police said shortly after 5 a.m., the woman was walking on Milwaukee Avenue northwest of Golf and Greenwood roads when she was hit by the squad car.

Mercedes Smith, 28 and a pedestrian, was hit by a Cook County Sheriff’s Department squad car around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Glenview police said.

Police said, shortly after 5 a.m., a pedestrian was hit by a Cook County Sheriff's squad car in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Officers responded to the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue early Tuesday morning after Mercedes Smith, 28, was struck by the vehicle of a Cook County Sheriff's officer.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, before the sun came up, on a stretch of Milwaukee Avenue, north of Golf Road. Glenview Police said a Cook County Sheriff’s Department SUV hit a pedestrian.
