After a Department of Homeland Security attorney on Thursday moved to dismiss the case of the man, a strategy federal attorneys have recently been using to make asylum-seekers easier to remove, immigration judge Patrick O’Brien raised doubts over his mental ability, saying, “it’s obvious to me that there are competency issues.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Wednesday announced it had arrested more than 200 immigrants during a 9-day operation that spanned the Denver metro area.

Federal immigration authorities arrested at least 243 undocumented immigrants with varying criminal backgrounds in the Denver area in mid-July, ICE said Wednesday.

A federal judge ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia's release from jail, and another barred ICE from immediately taking him into custody. Abrego Garcia was deported from Maryland in March and returned months later to face human smuggling charges.
