The Knox County Board of Education will soon consider a proposal to build a new K-8 school to serve the Mechanicsville, Lonsdale, and Beaumont area. If approved, the school system would acquire the former Rule High School site and close two existing elementary schools.

Betsy Henderson, who oversees the Knox County's public schools, said "we cannot allow another year to pass without giving every family this freedom."
