Meta has decided to stop serving political, electoral, and social advertising on its platforms in the EU, rather than be subject to upcoming regulation.

Meta Platforms will ban political, electoral, and social issue ads in the EU starting October, according to the AFP. The social media giant cited “unworkable requirements” under the bloc’s new transparency law.

The move comes ahead of new EU regulations on transparency around political advertising, set to become effective from 10 October.
