West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey directed the state’s National Guard to assist with the Trump administration’s federal policing efforts in D.C.

According to a release from Morrisey's press office, the West Virginia National Guard will deploy troops to the nation's capital "as a show of commitment to public safety and regional cooperation."

The move by West Virginia comes as hundreds of District of Columbia National Guard were activated this week to back up local law enforcement.
