About 140 miles west, the South Rim fire burning in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park grew to 1,640 acres and forced mandatory evacuations in Montrose County on Friday night.
The area is in "go" status, meaning all residents and visitors should leave immediately. Residents of Jacob Lake in northern Coconino County were evacuated on July 10, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon was closed to visitors.
