Linda McMahon, a major Republican donor and a former pro-wrestling executive, was confirmed Monday to serve as President Donald Trump’s secretary of the Department of Education.

Linda McMahon will be the next secretary of the Department of Education after passing a full Senate vote for her confirmation on Monday. The Senate voted 51-45 long party lines to confirm President Trump’s nominee to lead a federal agency he has been vocal about wanting to shut down.

Trump would direct Linda McMahon to take steps to close the department. "I want to bring schools back to the states," he said at the White House.

President Trump is expected to issue an executive order directing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin taking the necessary steps to shutter the department. An administration official told NewsNation White House correspondent Libbey Dean early Thursday that Trump would sign an executive order Thursday afternoon that directs McMahon to begin dissolving the Education Department.
