Global stocks rose on Monday while the dollar slipped as talks began in London between the United States and China aimed at cooling a trade dispute between the world's two largest economies. The trade dispute between the two countries has expanded beyond tit-for-tat tariffs to restrictions over rare earths,

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.5% in early trade on Monday. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index surged 1.3%, touching the 24,000-point level for the first time since March 21. Japan's Nikkei stock index rose 0.9%.

The U.S. dollar (DXY) was slightly up on Monday as investors awaited tariff related decisions from trade talks between the U.S. and China, expected to be held later in the day in London.   The greenback charted gains on Friday after a strong May jobs report.
