Typically, users ping an IP address to check a device's connectivity, but you can also use a computer's host name, or alphanumeric ID, instead.

Type "ping [x]" (without quotation marks) into Command Prompt. Replace " [x]" with the IP address or host name of the target computer. Press "Enter" to ping the remote computer.
