James Harden put the Los Angeles Clippers on his back during a win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night, and the 11-time All-Star sounds prepared to continue doing that for the remainder of the season.
During the Clippers' 123-115 win over the Detroit Pistons at Inuit Dome, Harden recorded his 24th career 50-point game, putting him within one of Bryant for third-most in NBA history. As the 35-year-old guard posted 50 for the first time since December 2019, former President Barack Obama was in attendance with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.
Harden ended up with the eighth 50-point game in franchise history, the first since Lou Williams on Jan. 10, 2018, at Golden State. He joined Williams, Bob McAdoo and World B. Free as the only players in club history with at least four 40-point games in a season.
James Harden sitting at fourth place on the all-time leaderboard for most 50-point games makes plenty of sense. He's been perhaps the NBA's most dangerous one-on-one scorer for more than a decade now. He has three scoring titles. These are the traits one would expect out of a 50-point scorer.
