Louisiana’s new closed primaries begin next April. State officials are backing a change to dissolve the Independent Party in a bid to avoid voter confusion.

The eligibility of three candidates running in the upcoming Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana election is heading for tribal court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The May 3rd Municipal General and Special Primary Election is just a few weeks away. Runoff elections are being held in some parishes to finish races that started in March. Special elections will help to fill vacancies. Local propositions like millages, tax changes and city charter amendments will be on the ballot.

Early voting for Louisiana’s May 3 Municipal General Election will begin Saturday, April 19. Voters in East Baton Rouge will also choose a new state representative in a Special Primary Election.

House District 67 covers Gardere and Riverbend in the south, the LSU campus and Old South Baton Rouge, as well as Mid City and North Baton Rouge.
