Aston Villa miss the chance to all but secure their place in the Champions League knockouts as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Monaco at Stade Louis II.

Wilfried Singo’s header in the eighth minute proved the different at the Stade Louis II as an underwhelming Villa side lost for the second time of their European campaign.

Aston Villa’s hopes of automatic qualification for the Champions League round of 16 took a blow after a 1-0 loss to Monaco on Tuesday, while Atalanta won big to keep up its strong campaign. Villa led the standings early in the league phase of the competition after winning its first three games.
