Justin Bieber wrote a lengthy tribute to maternal grandfather Bruce Dale in a social media post April 26, saying "I can’t wait to see u again soon."

Dale, father of Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, was a longtime supporter of his grandson’s career. He appeared in Bieber’s 2011 documentary, Never Say Never, and shared memories during a 2018 interview at the Stratford Perth Museum, which featured an exhibit dedicated to the pop star.

In a February 2018 interview at the Steps to Stardom exhibit at the Stratford Perth Museum, Bieber's grandfather got emotional discussing his grandson's career, as he recalled himself and Diane driving eight hours to watch the musician's "first show."
