Castile and Leon, Spain’s largest region, had 32 wildfires raging on Tuesday, with more than 1,200 firefighters involved. Five of the blazes posed a direct threat to nearby populations, and over 4,000 residents were ordered to leave their homes.

France’s red warning is for the south west of the country, with citizens told to remain “absolutely vigilant” as “everyone is at risk, even healthy people” during a heatwave, according to Meteo France, the country’s meteorological service.

General wildfire advice from the FCDO warns that wildfires happen often in Spain and Portugal during the summer months. It says, “wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable”, and advises travellers in high-risk areas to follow the advice of local authorities.
Unlisted Spanish transport company Avanza has won a concession to run Lisbon's bus, tram and subway networks, a spokesman for Portugal's Economy Ministry said on Friday.
