The New York City Council passed a bill Thursday that could cut down helicopter use in the city by putting harsher noise restrictions on nonessential flights. The bill, which passed by a 46-1 vote

The council voted to ban nonessential helicopter flights that fail to meet the strictest federal noise standards from operating out of key heliports. The law would go into effect at the end of 2029.

The New York City Council has voted for stricter regulations of non-essential helicopter flights from city-owned heliports, following a helicopter crash on April 10 that killed six people.
