An island-wide blackout hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday as the largely Catholic residents of the U.S. territory prepared to celebrate the Easter weekend, officials said.

Crews are working to restore power to Puerto Rico after a blackout across the entire island affected the main airport, several hospitals and hotels filled with Easter vacationers.
