Brave New World is the first movie with Sam Wilson becoming Captain America since the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While not a direct continuation of the show's plot, it still has plenty of callbacks for avid fans.

Captain America: Brave New World has defied poor reviews to gross nearly $200 million worldwide on its opening weekend. The new movie marks the penultimate outing of Phase 5 of the MCU on the movies side, before we head into the final phase of The Multiverse Saga which culminates with two Avengers movies.

This timeline tells us that Thunderbolts* will happen either soon after the events in Brave New World or a little later down the road. Whatever the case, Congressman James Buchanan Barnes will be elected to office before he and the Thunderbolts become the New Avengers.
