Elon Musk had a lot to say about Tesla’s upcoming Robotaxi service on Wednesday. Robotaxi will be coming to Austin and other cities later this year, Musk claims.

For years, Elon Musk has talked about Dojo — the AI supercomputer that will be the cornerstone of Tesla’s AI ambitions. It’s important enough to Musk that in July 2024, he said the company’s AI team would “ double down ” on Dojo in the lead-up to Tesla’s robotaxi reveal, which happened in October.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company is gearing up to start its unsupervised full self-driving as a "paid service" in Austin, Texas, in June. Later on, it will be expanded to "several other cities" in the country by the end of this year.

It doesn't matter what Musk really meant with this salute. Robotaxis are exclusively a product for large urban areas, and that population largely didn't like it at all.

Tesla reports fourth-quarter earnings and revenue on Wednesday and while the EV giant's profit and delivery guidance will be important for investors, so too are several key timelines for products Chief Executive Elon Musk has stressed as integral to Tesla's future.

Musk, who also runs SpaceX and a number of other companies, has been known to make big often exaggerated promises. For example, he once called the Hyperloop, which was never built, the "fifth mode of transport" and famously promised to take Tesla private in a Twitter post, saying he had secured financing that he didn't have.
