More than 80 people were killed in the country’s northeast over the weekend following the government’s failed attempts to hold peace talks with the National Liberation Army, a Colombian official said.

A fresh outbreak of guerrilla violence amid a faltering peace process in conflict-riddled Colombia has left more than 80 people dead in just over three days, officials reported Sunday.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has accused leftist guerillas of committing "war crimes" near the Colombia-Venezuela border. The government has paused peace talks with the group.
