Chances of Asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting Earth just shot up: Should we panic?
The 2024 YR4 was spotted on December 27, 2024, by the Atlas Telescope in Chile. Reportedly, the space rock is around 40 to 100 meters in diameter. The outcome of the impact is unknown as the current probabilities are mostly based on limited observational data.
A space rock dubbed 2024 YR4 has a roughly 2.3% chance of smashing into our planet, NASA scientists announced.
"An asteroid this size impacts Earth on average every few thousand years and could cause severe damage to a local region," the European Space Agency said.
