The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has found that Russia violated freedom of expression by imposing fines on Google for refusing to remove certain content from YouTube. The judges in Strasbourg ruled that pressuring the company with heavy financial penalties to censor videos or tolerate certain content on its video platform was incompatible with free speech protections.

The judge found the attorneys violated court rules when they filed a motion that featured numerous errors, including misquotes from case law and citations from nonexistent cases.
