The WBZ Weather Team is highlighting Tuesday as a NEXT Weather Alert day in Massachusetts. This alert is for a combination of heat and humidity as well as a threat for scattered storms fueled by the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal in the Boston area.

The Boston region is in for sweltering temperatures as this week kicks off before chances of rain and storms appear on and off as the days go on, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

After a relatively comfortable July 4th, the extreme heat is returning to Massachusetts and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory because of how hot it will feel through Monday.The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for most of southern New England through Monday at 8 p.

On Monday at 1:23 p.m. the National Weather Service released a heat advisory valid for Tuesday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable counties.

On Monday at 1:56 p.m. a heat advisory was released by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC valid for Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. The advisory is for Mainland Dare, Mainland Hyde, Northern Craven,
