England's Joe Root has moved closer to cricketing immortality with his latest test innings against India at his favourite venue.
While Tendulkar made the record playing 200 Tests, Root has become the second-highest run scorer in Tests with a total of 13,409 runs in 157 Tests, and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes he sees no reason why Root cannot break Tendulkar’s record.
Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan recently came forward and predicted the game in which star England batter Joe Root could go on to break former India batter Sachin Tendulkar's Test runs record of 15,
Ponting also said that Joe Root has a full chance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 runs. He said, “37 Test centuries, more than 13,000 runs – an amazing career so far, and there is still a lot of cricket left. Root is 35 years old and his passion for the game is intact. Let’s see if he can break Sachin’s record too.”
No airs, no graces – just a wave of the right hand and a slight nod of the head from one of sport’s most self-effacing figures, as Joe Root humbly acknowledged a standing ovation when he passed Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in Test history.
