NEW YORK (Reuters) -Meta Platforms’ Oversight Board on Wednesday sharply rebuked the Facebook and Instagram owner over a policy overhaul in January that cut fact-checking and eased curbs on discussions of contentious topics such as immigration and gender identity.

Meta's Oversight Board published nearly a dozen decisions Wednesday on whether or not to remove content from the company's platforms.

Meta Platforms faced criticism from its Oversight Board for hastily implementing content handling changes, potentially harming users amid political unrest. The board raised concerns about the lack of proper risk assessment and made 17 recommendations to improve content rules.
