“Jurassic World Rebirth” has nods to the past even as it cuts a new future with new characters. It’s a sort of heist movie with monsters that’s set on the original decaying island research facility for the original, abandoned Jurassic Park.

While far from an uneven franchise’s worst, “Jurassic World Rebirth” has a peculiar sense of pacing and a grim endurance-test tone.

Even Spielberg didn't even try to resurrect that exact mix of awe and terror in The Lost World, that film leaning far more into the scary nature of the flesh-eating dinosaurs as opposed to their grass-eating, foot-stomping wonder.
