Sky watchers will be treated to something special as the Lyrids meteor shower reaches its peak ... Meteorites that have made their way to the Earth's surface are small pieces of an asteroid.

Lyrids can surprise watchers with as many as 100 meteors seen per hour, but in general, 10-20 Lyrid meteors can be seen per hour during the peak.
