Lou Lamoriello is out as general manager of the New York Islanders, after the team said Tuesday the longtime NHL executive’s contract was not being renewed.

Lamoriello conducted exit meetings with Islanders players on Monday — because the Islanders have major business to conduct this offseason and they will get a head start on any other team in the league that might be searching for a new top executive or two.

Lamoriello previously served as general manager of the New Jersey Devils from 1987 to 2015. The Devils made it to five Stanley Cup Finals and won three championships over that spa
