A clean energy company is abandoning a plan to build a giant electric battery factory in Atlanta’s suburbs after it shifted to buy a solar panel plant in Texas.

A state official says a Norway-based battery manufacturer has scrapped plans to build a factory in metro Atlanta. The Coweta County project would have been Freyr Battery’s first American factory. It promised hundreds of jobs and a $2.

Freyr Battery must pay the state of Georgia back for a $7 million grant the company received to acquire its 368-acre site that was going to be a battery factory in Coweta County.

COWETA COUNTY, Ga — A $2.5 billion battery manufacturing plant that was set to be built in Coweta County is no longer coming as the company changed plans.
