Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier lost to Max Holloway via unanimous decision in his final fight at UFC 318, ending his career with 39 wins and 10 losses.

Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) didn't get his fairytale ending after losing a unanimous decision to Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) for the BMF title in Saturday's headliner at Smoothie King Center. However, that doesn't mean that Poirier isn't grateful for the experience of having his retirement fight in his home state of Louisiana.

Max Holloway may have played the role of the villain to the Louisiana faithful Saturday night when he denied native son Dustin Poirier the BMF championship belt at UFC 318, but on Sunday morning he was any other guy looking for some New Orleans comfort food.

Dustin Poirier will receive a hero's welcome in his native Louisiana at UFC 318 when he battles Max Holloway for a third time in their careers. It's a respect Poirier earned from his peers and the promotion that they would take a PPV event to New Orleans for the first time in 25 years as a proper send off to one of the good guys in the sport's history.
