The MSHSL doesn’t receive federal or state funding, so how much weight does a threat to pull government funding carry?

The Department of Education announced Wednesday it is investigating the State High School League for allowing transgender student-athletes to compete in sports consistent with their gender identity.

The investigations, which will be conducted by the DOE's Office for Civil Rights (OCR), are in relation to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Feb. 5 that bans transgender girl and women student-athletes from girls' and women's sports, which is the subject of legal challenges that argue it's discriminatory.
